1. Give the introduction your attention

Start Astro’s Playroom and follow its on-screen introduction before worrying about trophies. This is a platforming adventure built around the DualSense controller: touch, sound, movement, and trigger resistance are part of the experience. Give yourself time to notice what the controller is showing you as well as what is happening on the television.

Our suggested goal for this session is modest: become comfortable with moving around and finish a stretch of exploration you enjoyed. You are learning a new game, so pauses and retries belong here. Sit somewhere comfortable, make sure you can read the prompts, and let each instruction land before rushing onwards.

2. Make movement feel familiar

Use the opening space to practise the movements the game introduces. Watch where Astro lands, how the camera frames the next platform, and what changes when you hold a prompted input instead of tapping it. Aim for a repeatable landing before you try combining several actions quickly.

When a gap feels awkward, stop on solid ground and look at the route again. Choose a clear landing spot, then make one deliberate attempt. Repeating a small section is useful practice, especially if you change one thing each time. You do not need a perfect run to understand what the game is asking.

3. Follow one world’s ideas

The main adventure spans four worlds with stages that introduce different ways to play. Follow the world that catches your attention and read the new prompts when a power-up suit appears. These suits change Astro’s abilities, so the action that worked in the previous stretch may not be the next mechanic to practise.

For this first visit, prioritise the visible route. If something off to the side looks inviting, investigate; if it becomes frustrating, return your attention to progressing. A simple rhythm works well: look around, try the next obstacle, then take a moment to enjoy the scene before moving on.

4. Collect memories before chasing completion

You will encounter puzzle pieces and PlayStation hardware artifacts, with collected hardware displayed in PlayStation Labo. The game also hides playful scenes featuring bots dressed as familiar PlayStation characters. Those cameos are little visual jokes; recognising every reference is not a prerequisite for enjoying them.

Take the discoveries you naturally spot and leave an exhaustive checklist for another visit if that sounds enjoyable. At the end of the session, think about the movement you liked most and the funniest thing you found. That gives you a lovely reason to return, whether your eventual goal is more exploration, a trophy, or simply another cheerful evening with Astro.
